Asakusa Station to Kinugawa-Onsen Station

Hi,

We are going to Nikko/Kinugawa-Onsen for a day trip but do not have time to get a Nikko Pass to cover the train trip.

We are thinking of catching a Tobu Train (Rapid/Section Rapid) from Asakusa Station to Kinugawa-Onsen Station first thing in the morning (6:20am - Tobu Skytree Line Section Rapid).

We wanted to know if Kinugawa-Onsen Station has a card reader so that we could use the Suica/Pasmo card or if a ticket needs to be purchased at Asakusa Station?

And is buying a ticket for the Rapid/Section Rapid Train any different from buying a normal ticket at the machines?

A side question, what happens if we used the Suica/Pasmo card to get on at a station but at the arrival station there is no card reader? How will we pay? Will the card be charged?

Thanks!

Hi there,

As far as I could see on pictures of the Tobu Nikko station, it has ticket gates that can use an IC card.

Besides that, rapid and local services have the same price. However limited express trains do require an extra fare.

You can pay in cash if there is no cardreader available.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,
Sorry I meant to ask if there was a card reader at kinugawa-onsen station. Looking at the network map it seems not to have one but I wanted to double check.

I will probably end up buying a ticket from Asakusa just to be safe.

With the Suica/Pasmo card, will the card get charged anything or will we get a fine if we used it to get on at one station but at the station we get off there is no card reader? Does the charge drop after a certain period of time or just when you get off at another station? For example if I were to use it to get on at Shinjuku at the beginning of the day, get off at a station that has no card reader, get back on with a ticket as there is no card reader and get off at Harajuku at night - will I only get charged on the card the trip from Shinjuku to Harajuku?

Thanks!
