No credit card required when booking in Japan

I booked hotels several times via Rakuten and directly from the hotel website (all in Janpanese)

But I wondered why they all do not require my credit card or anything to guarantee my booking.
I received my booking number and confirmation mails but it's just so easy that it makes me worry a little bit.

This is my first time going to Japan. I know Japanese well but could anyone give me any assurance on this?

Hi there,

I don't know the exact reason but I think that some Japanese have a higher amount of trust in travelers showing up then in other parts of the world and therefor don't ask for a credit-card.

You can expect the confirmation to be valid. If in doubt, just send the accommodation an e-mail and ask if they can confirm your booking.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
