Osaka-Kyoto-Tokyo (6days)

Hi,

Could you please advice if JR pass is worth it for our 6 days stay in Japan this October 18-23 2014.

We will be arriving in Osaka Kansai Airport then stay in Swissotel Osaka. (Train to Swisostel Osaka from airport)

Oct 18-20 (stay in Osaka)
Oct 20-23 (stay in Tokyo)

We will be having a tour in Kyoto and Nara (Oct 18-19) but will go back to Osaka each day as our accommodation is there. We prefer to take the Bullet train to Tokyo (Oct 20).

Places to visit in Tokyo: Odaiba (Gundam, Rainbow Bridge), Disney Sea, Tokyo Skytree, Mt. Fuji, Asakusa, Euno Park, Harajuku (Kiddy Land), Shibuya, Shinjuku.

We will depart from Narita Airport.

Is JR Pass cheaper for our itinerary?

We will really appreciate if you have any suggestions on our itinerary. Like places to visit or suggestions to make the most of our time in Japan and be able to visit the "must see" or "highlights" of Japan.

You could plan your trip with http://www.hyperdia.com/ they display the prices you would have to pay without the rail pass. Don't forget to add the reserved seat / unreserved seat option since it influences the price either way.

Between Osaka and Tokyo you will have to use the Tokaido Shinkansen. Be carefull not to use the Nozomi (the fastest connection) when traveling with the JR Pass since that one is not included.

As far as I can tell (I'm currently planing my holiday in Japan too) you can't use the subway etc. with the JR Pass but there are often JR trains going through the cities as well, those are included. (same goes for the Tokyo Monorail)
