Hi,

We are coming to Japan this January for 2 weeks to ski and would like to ski in both Nagano and Niseko. We are trying to determine the best order in which to travel.

We arrive at NRT at 4:30 PM, is it possible to get an overnight train to Niseko departing that evening? Otherwise, we would likely go to Nagano first and it looks like the train departures from NRT are frequent and we would be able to arrive that evening?

Also, any general advice on which order to visit both areas would be great!

Thanks!

Hi there,

Niseko is quite far from Narita Airport, some people even fly to Hokkaido instead to take the train from there to Niseko. You would not have enough time to make the trip up with a 4:30 PM arrival, there are also no night trains. You could however still make it to Nagano. Getting on the Narita Express and then Shinkansen to Nagano is straightforward and covered by the JR Pass. Then look at setting a proper date going to Niseko.

I don't do a lot of wintersport myself but usually recommend checking snowjapan.com, they have a lot of info in resort. When you are in Niseko, I would also recommend a visit to Sapporo :)

Hope this helps,
Daniel
