I'm traveling to the theatre festival in Toga-mura in August. Staying 2 nights in Tokyo, catching the 7.20 am Hokuriku Sinkansen to Toyama, and then the JR Takayama line train from Toyama to Etchu Yatsuo. And doing the reverse 4 days later. Should I buy individual tickets for such a limited itinerary! Or would the 7 day Japan Rail pass be cheaper?
Also, I'm staying near the Shinegawa Station in Tokyo. Which is the rarest station for the train to Toyama!
Thank you
David.
Tokyo to Togamura
Hello David,
Interesting plan.
A one way ticket Shinagawa - Etchu Tatsuo is ¥ 13,050 or double for a return. The 7 day JR Pass is 29,100. So there's a 3,000yen difference between normal tickets and the JR Pass. This is easily traveled though, just a one way Tokyo - Narita Airport is around 3,000yen.
In short, the JR Pass is worth it if you can cover at least the additional 3,000yen worth of travel with it. Otherwise stick to normal tickets.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
