Hi,
My partner and I will be traveling to Japan in March.

We are planning the following itinerary:
Some days in Tokyo, including a day trip to Mt. Fuji.
Tokyo → Yudanaka
Yudanaka → Kyoto
Kyoto → Nara
Nara → Miyajima
Miyajima → Koyasan
Koyasan → Osaka
Osaka → Tokyo

What would be the best travel ticket? JR Pass or individual tickets?
Happy to hear any tips or advice.

Thank you very much,

Alexis

Hi there,

If you are able to complete your travel itinerary (ignoring the day trip to Fuji, as if you were to buy a JR Pass and start its validation period from when you leave for Yudanaka it would increase your overall savings) in a 7-day period, then I would recommend purchasing a 7-day JR Pass. Please note that travel to Yudanaka from Tokyo is only covered until Nagano Station with the JR Pass, and travel to Koyasan is not directly covered either. For Koya, you'll need to go to Shin-Osaka where you can then take a private railway - more info on this can be found here. I accounted for both of these when looking at price difference and a 7-day JR Pass in combination with some extra tickets will be your most cost effective option.

Kind regards,

Alexis
