I am trying to figure out the best way to secure the various trains for the following itinerary. I cannot figure out if JR 7 day pass or a la carte is better.
Given the trains needed over the New Years period, I also want to be sure to secure the seat reservations for my family of 5.

Dec 24 - Tokyo->Hakone
Dec 25 - Hakone->Osaka
Dec 27 - Osaka->Hiroshima->Miyajima Island->Osaka
Dec 29 - Osaka->Kyoto
Jan 1 - Kyoto->Tokyo
Jan 4 - Tokyo->Haneda Airport

Hi there,

It's probably best for you to purchase your tickets individually given your itinerary, if you want to consider the most cost-effective option. It also may be the easier option for you given that you can then purchase all of your tickets in advance to guarantee seats for all of your family.

Hope this helps!

Thank you!
For reservations made in advance, are train times flexible to be changed if we find we are on the ground and need to make a later train or running early and wanting to get on an earlier train?
Obviously it would be subject to availability of seats for our family of 5. But our kids are older teens and twenties so if we need to sit separately, we can.
