Hello! We are traveling to Japan for 14 days, and I have been trying to figure out if the JR pass will be a money saving option for us or if we can use individual tickets.

Tokyo: 6 days (possible visits to hakone, misaki, saitama)
Train to Kyoto
Kyoto 6 days (visits to osaka, nara, kobe, naoshima)
Train to Hiroshima
Hiroshima 2 days
Train to Tokyo

Trying to figure out if the 14 day pass would be needed, or if we could activate. a 7 day pass starting with our train from tokyo to kyoto. I also appreciate any resources to help me figure this out for myself!:) Thank you in advanced!

Hello there,

The ticket prices for intercity travel in Japan are by far the most costly, therefore this is where you can make the best possible savings with a Japan Rail Pass. If you can do travel to Kyoto, all the side trips (inc. Hiroshima) and back to Tokyo within 7-days, then a 7-day Japan Rail Pass would be by far the best option.

On the website, we also have a variety of tools you can use to get familair with the pass. This includes the JR Pass Map, our Fare Calculator and the wide range of knowledge we share on our blog.

Happy travels,
Daniel
