Hi there!

My trip to Japan coming up this late September and my itinerary is : my flight will arrived Narita Airport at 8pm and I stay a night in Tokyo near Tokyo station because I plan the next day to get on the Shinkansen to Kyoto and I don’t know if 2 days would be enough to visit all these locations: “ Kifune Shrine” “ Arashiyama Bamboo Forest” “ Fushimi Inari Taisha “ “Hokan-Ji Temple “ “ Gion District “ “Nishiki Market “ and some other local restaurants around, if I have time in these 2 days I would love to go Osaka too but if not I will leave Kyoto to Tokyo and spend 4 fours days to see : “ Shibuya crossing and around the area “ “ Shinjuku : Omoide Yokocho “ “Odaiba “ “ the making Harry Potter “ “ Sanrio Puroland Tokyo “ and might be other places if we still some time left but still around Tokyo.

My main question is : with all those places I would love to go , Is it worth to get JR Pass for travel all around those area ,like using JR Pass to take all JR train to all those places in Kyoto and Tokyo ( Does JR Pass available to use in Kyoto local transportation ? ) also Using JR Pass to take train from Narita Airport to Tokyo and from Tokyo to Narita Airport back ? I have 7 days for this Japan Trip.

Thank you so much!

Hi there,

You'd be better off buying normal rail tickets if your long distance travel is limited to a return Tokyo - Kyoto using the Shinkansen. Local travel is low cost in Japan (think of the Metro/Bus etc) and usually there are even more economic ways to get around, such as day passes.

For your time in Kyoto, I do think a 3rd day would be good. I've spend months in Kyoto and there's still plenty new for me to explore. I'd feel you'd be rushing too much

Hopefully that helps, let me know if you have any further questions.
Daniel
