Getting Around Using the JR Kansai Area Pass - Osaka - Kyoto - Nara - Arashiyama

I'm a little confused as what lines are covered and which lines to take when visiting all the above areas. So far, my schedule is as follows:

  1. Landing in Kansai and Staying in Osaka for a few nights.
  2. From Osaka, going to Kyoto for a few more nights.
  3. While in Kyoto, will be doing day trips to Nara and Arashiyama.

What I can gather is, I can use the Haruka Limited Express for (1). For (2), I can use the Special Rapid Maribara to get to Kyoto. But, for (3), not sure which is the best way to get to Nara and Arashiyama using the JR Pass.

Also, am I missing anything? First time to Japan so I'm a little apprehensive.

Thank you in advance for any help or advise!

Hi there,

Yes Haruka Ltd Express is your best option for travel between Kansai Airport and Osaka. Same with the Rapid Maribara service to Kyoto.

To get to Nara and Arashiyama and back from Kyoto it is quite simple. From Kyoto you can get the JR Nara line to Nara in an hour. To get to Arashiyama, you can take the JR San'in Main Line towards Sonobe in about 30 minutes.

Hope this helps!
