Hello,
I have a 10N/11D itinerary as outlined below. i need suggestions on which JR Pass (Regional) will be needed.

Dates: 9th May -19th May 2024. Covering Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo cities.

below is a broad starting itinerary I have put together.

Please recommend which is the best JR pass is applicable for us. (regional or all Japan) considering usage per itinerary.

1) 9th May : Arrive at Osaka KIX airport 16:10pm -> transfer to a Hotel booked nearby Shin-Osaka Station
2) 10th May : Osaka local sightseeing - Osaka Castle, Umeda Sky, etc.
3) 11th May : Trip to visit Universal Studios Japan - using Train transit
4) 12th May : Day Trip to Hiroshima and back to Osaka same day - using bullet Trains?
5) 13th May : Osaka --> Kyoto, check-in to Hotel near Kyoto Station, rest of the day local sightseeing
5) 14th May : Kyoto --> Nara day tour and back to Kyoto hotel same day
6) 15th May : Kyoto local sight seeing -> Gion District, Kiyomizu temple, Nijo Castle, etc.
7) 16th May : Kyoto -> Tokyo via Alpine Route (arrive same evening in Tokyo via Nagano)
8) 17th May : Tokyo --> local sightseeing,
9) 18th May : Tokyo --> Mt Fuji Day tour -> use trains, etc.
10) 19th May Tokyo --> check-out hotel, local sightseeing, depart from HND 22:55 back to home

Thanks a lot in Advance for your suggestions on an applicable Regional Pass or whichever is recommended.

Hi there,

A 7-day JR Pass would suit you best, but when you activate it depends on your needs: activating it from the 10th to the 16th gives you access to the Osaka Loop but activating it from the 12th to the 18th gives you 2 days of use on the Yamanote line around Tokyo.

Hope this helps!

Thank you.

Do you mean the All Japan JR pass or is there possibility that I can buy a Regional Pass if suitable to my itinerary?

I have two questions and will be grateful if you can help answer:

  1. Can you advice if the Osaka-Tokyo Hokuriku Arch Pass will be suitable for my travel needs based on above itinerary plan?

  2. Will the JR Pass (either National or Regional) will be useful on the Alpine Route? As I am planning to go from Kyoto to Tokyo via the Alpine route (reach Tokyo via Nagano)
