Children and Kyoto to Tokyo help

Hey all,

we're travelling with 2 adults and 2 kids (age 3 and 1 years when we travel). How much are the tickets for the kids?

We're also planning on traveling from Tokyo to Kyoto as well. How much travel time is involved travelling between these 2 cities? Can we upgrade the JRpass to make sure we can also travel with the higher speed bullet trains between these 2 cities?

Am I right that we can't use the bullet trains with the pass? Or can we?

Hi Hilda,

I think you do not need to buy JRpass for your children. If your children are under 6 yrs old, it is free.

"Children between 6 and 11 years old at the time of initial train travel qualify for child tickets. If they are younger than 6 and do not require their own seat, then your child is able to travel free across the JR network."

Do you mean "high speed bullet train" are Nozomi and Mizuho?
If so, you can't use it for the high speed bullet train but I'm afraid I don't know you are able to upgrade or not.

Travel time from Tokyo to Kyoto is about 2hours 45min.

Hope this will help you!
