Hello,

I am not sure if I need to purchase the JR tourist pass. I will be travelling in Japan for 2 weeks.

I will be landing at Narita airport and will need to get to the Shinjuku neighborhood . I'll spend a few days in Tokyo then visit Mt- Fuji, Nagano, Kyoto, and Osaka area (Nara and Koyasan) and then back to Tokyo Narita airport to fly home.

What kind of train pass or card do you recommend?

Thanks, NinaB

Hi there,

If you can fit your itinerary that will be covered by Shinkansen into a 7-day period, then I would suggest purchasing a JR Pass. If it exceeds this timeframe the JR Pass will no longer be a cost-effective option for you, and I'd suggest purchasing your tickets individually. Also note that either way, travel to Koyasan is not wholly covered by the JR Pass, so you'd have to purchase a bus ticket from a nearby station as there are no trains that go into the area.

Kind regards,

Alexis
