My mother is considering having a trip in Japan for 3 weeks. I am currently a university student in Beppu and I would like to accompany her. Is it eligible for me to also buy the JR Pass when accompanying her?
If not, could you recommend me some cheaper ways to purchase shinkansen tickets from Osaka to Fukuoka? I would like to take her from Kansai to Kyushu regions and we are planning to purchase the 7-day Kansai Kyushu railpass.

Hi there,
The JR Pass can only be used to those who enter Japan using a temporary visitor (V) visa. Else you'd be considered a normal citizen and would have to use normal tickets like everyone else.
In general you can get some discounts by:
- Buying tickets at a discounted ticket shop
- Buying ahead of time through Eki Net
- Buying a return ticket
- Some other promotional discount directly through the rail providers.
