Hi,

myself and a friend are going to Saitama city for the month of July as part of a university exchange programme. We won't be able to travel during the week, but intend to make the most of our weekends. We want to spend one weekend in Kyoto so have been looking at the JR pass, however using hyperdia website it looks like the train we would be getting out of Tokyo towards Kyoto is a Nozomi Shinkansen therefore not covered by the pass?

I would REALLY appreciate some help clearing this matter up, as time is running out now!

Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

There are lots of non-Nozomi trains on the Tokyo-Kyoto route, but you in general have to disable Nozomi from the search output to see them. To do this, uncheck the 'NOZOMI/MIZUHO/HAYABUSA' tick-box under the 'SearchDetails' link at the bottom of the hyperdia search box.

If you'd like to go through it step by step, we have video on how to use Hyperdia for Japan Rail Pass holders that provides more complete guidance on using hyperdia with a JR Pass.

Hope this helps!
