Hello there! Thought I'd like to check if a 7 day JR pass is viable for the following itinerary, especially since I'm not travelling to many places:

  • (Nov 17) Narita>Tokyo
  • (Nov 19) Tokyo>Kyoto (Thinking of activating JR Pass here)
  • (Nov 22) Kyoto>Nara, Nara>Kyoto
  • (Nov 23) Kyoto>Tokyo
  • (Nov 24) Tokyo>Nikko (Pass ends here)
  • (Nov 25) Tokyo>Nikko, Nikko>Tokyo
  • (Nov 26) Tokyo>Narita

Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there!

Yes, you'll certainly save money on the 7 day period from 19th-25th. Here is a breakdown of your savings:

  1. Tokyo > Kyoto: ¥13,420 (164mins, 513km)
  2. Kyoto > Nara: ¥690 (44mins, 41km)
  3. Nara > Kyoto: ¥690 (44mins, 41km)
  4. Kyoto > Tokyo: ¥13,420 (161mins, 513km)
  5. Tokyo > Nikko: ¥5,630 (121mins, 150km)
  6. Nikko > Tokyo: ¥5,630 (117mins, 150km)

JR ticket cost: ¥39,480 for 6 legs

I also recommend you purchase either the Keisei Skyliner + Metro Pass or [Narita Express + SUICA card deal]to get your into Tokyo from Narita and also give you discounted travel around the city.

Hope this helps!
