Can I select my days of use? and what is the Japan Rail Pass?

Once you’ve activated your Japan Rail Pass it is valid for the next 7 / 14 / 21 consecutive days.

• For example with a 7-Day Pass you cannot select 7 separate days over a period of weeks or months to use it. It is valid only for successive days once activated.

You don’t need to use it every day, but to get the most out of it we recommend that you do so.

When does it expire?

Your Japan Rail Pass will expire at the end of the 7th / 14th / 21st day of use at midnight. After this time you cannot use it again to board a JR train, bus or ferry.

• For example if you activate a 7-Day Pass at 1pm on 1st July, it will expire at midnight on 7th.

So there you go, consecutive days only please people, and remember you’re like Cinderella – come 12 midnight you’ll have to travel by pumpkin!
