Yes, the 14-day Nationwide JR Pass covers almost all of these long-distance journeys and local JR routes, offering great travel convenience throughout your trip.

Please note a couple of non-JR exceptions:

• Mt Kurama: Requires the private Eizan Electric Railway from Demachiyanagi Station.

• Kyoto Local Transport: Kyoto buses and subways are operated by non-JR companies, requiring separate fares or an IC card.

A question about the overnight trip from Kyoto to Hiroshima. Not knowing what time we can get to the train station in Hiroshima for our return, what is the best way to book travel if we leave Hiroshima in the morning, stop at Himeji to walk the gardens for a bit and then take the train from Himeji back to Kyoto?

Hello,

The Shinkansen takes about an hour from Hiroshima to Himeji, and another hour from Himeji on to Kyoto. If you would like to spend some time exploring Himeji Castle and the gardens, leaving around 10:00 or 11:00 am should give you plenty of time in Himeji.
