Hi there,
My daughter and I are traveling to Japan from the 2nd to 24th of April. We land in Haneda and go straight to Sendai for 2 days, from there we'll be traveling to Tokyo where we'll spend 8 nights, from there we go to Hakone for 2 days, then to Kyoto for 6 nights- we'll do a daytrip from here to Nagoya, then we'll go to Osaka for the last 6 nights- from here we'll do 2 daytrips, one to Nara and one to Itsukushima.

With all of the above in mind, would a JR pass be good to get. We'll have to get the 21 day pass and since it's very expensive, I just want to make sure it is really worth it.

Hi there,

It would be more cost-effective to purchase your tickets individually - if you feel that a JR Pass is more suitable for you it's still an option, but as you say it is expensive and for your itinerary it wouldn't be cost-effective.

Hope this helps!

Alexis

Thank you so much for the feedback. I am now wondering if I should maybe just get a 14 day pass, because when we are in Kyoto and Osaka I think we can get around without a pass.

Or otherwise we'll just get the Shinkansen tickets as we need them, but I have done some searching, and to me it seems like it's not so easy. you have to buy the tickets three days in advance, and there is another ticket you have to buy with the Shinkansen ticket? Maybe I misunderstood? Also, since we're travelling in April, it is very busy and one needs to rather get the Green tickets?

I'm so sorry for all these questions, but my daughter and I will be traveling alone, and I do realize that being in another country will have some interesting challenges, I just want to try and get the traveling done, so that at least we don't have to waste our precious time in this beautiful county struggling toon much getting around.

We'll buy a Welcome Suica card at Haneda, which should work on most other modes of transport, right?
