Hello, we will be having a 10-day holiday in Japan.

Tokyo - Kyoto
Kyoto - Osaka - Kobe - Kyoto
Kyoto - Lake Kawaguchi
Lake Kawaguchi - Tokyo

Our itinerary will be like this. Would getting a JR PASS be cost-effective? What is the fastest way to do this route? What is the last train departure time?

Thank you in advance.

Hello Hasan,

The JR Pass would not help you make savings on this route. The fastest way is to use the Nozomi Shinkansen between these cities. The last departure depends on the day, so best to check time schedules ahead of time.

As a general rule, service stops at midnight. So if you have a 3 hour trip from Tokyo to Osaka, then the last train will depart around 21:00.

Kind regards,
Daniel
