The day tour package for the above is so limited. Is it because the Tour Agency haven't post the autumn tour package?

If I would like to go by myself to Biei from Sapporo for 1 day trip, is it convenient to do so?

Hi there,

Not sure about the tour agency - it's possible that they don't have their dates finalised yet. Perhaps you could give them a call?

About the day trip Sapporo to Biei, yes, it's very possible to do that trip in a day from Sapporo (takes just over 2 hours each way). Here's a sample itinerary - you should aim to take the routes that transfer at Asahikawa for the simplest transfer.

On arrival at Biei turn left for the tourist information centre (Shihino Johokan) for advice, maps and handy leaflets of the area. You can also store luggage and bags here for the day if needed and rent bikes next to the information centre for viewing the hills.

I think this is a DIY tour ready to go :D

Hope this helps!

There are two scenary routes namely Patchwork and Panorama Road in Biei. My queries are below:

  1. Is it possible to visit both roads in one day by bicycle from Biei Station?
  2. How far between Biei Station and Bibaushi Station? If by bicycle, how long to take to reach Bibaushi?
  3. Train between the two stations is not frequent. Any other alternate public transport during autumn and how much the charges?
  4. Any tourist centre nearby Bibaushi station where I can get the cycling map?
  5. Is it safe to cycle in Biei after sunset?
  6. If unable to visit two roads, which road you recommend for autumn?

Hi there,

Hmm - I'm not sure about this as I've not been to Biei by bike. However, the two areas you mention (Patchwork and Panorama 'roads') are areas rather than roads, so if you're a keen cyclist you should be fine - if not, maybe it'll be a bit of hard work..

It's around 7km between Biei and Bibaushi station - here's a map to give you an idea of the distance:

Here's a cycling map and more information on tourism centers around Biei for you to take a look at.

For more tips about travelling around Biei, I recommend you look into the Twinkle bus services run by JR. There are a lot of different options for visiting the area and can ensure you get the most out of your time there.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your reply. I'll visit Biei on 18/10/12, where most of the bus or tour stop operate during that period.

Can I use the JR Hokkaido Round-trip Free Seating Discount Ticket (S Ticket) between Sapporo JR and Asahikawa for the above trip? Where to buy the Discount ticket?

Hi there,

You could use the S Ticket for the leg Sapporo to Asahikawa, but then you'd have to change train to the JR Furano line to Biei (a separate charge).

You can purchase the all JR Hokkaido tickets on arrival in Japan at a JR Hokkaido station.

Hope this helps!
