I can't find how to buy tickets from Tokyo to Kyoto (and return) on the internet. I need to buy them in advance since I'm getting to Tokyo in the night and need to get to Kyoto the following morning. I don't want to run the risk of having no tickets. All I find are fares and reservations but no purchase options. Does anybody can help?

Hi there!
If you want to purchase tickets then unfortunately you'll have to purchase them on arrival in Japan (there is no online way to purchase bullet train tickets currently).
Please note that the return to Kyoto by bullet train costs ¥26,440. The 7 day JR Pass costs ¥1860 (~$20USD) more at ¥28,300 and would cover the bullet train trip to Kyoto and back in addition to travel to/from airport and any other JR travel within the 7 day period.

tks mari. i understand that is more convenient to buy the 7 day JR Pass rather than buying isolated bullet train tickets to Kyoto.
so that takes me to my next question. would it be possible to buy online the 7 day JR Pass? I mean before getting to Japan.
