My Daughter and I are visiting Japan for the first time. We're staying for 7 days Sept 30 to Oct 8 and trying to cram a lot in. It's overwhelming trying to figure out the best way to get where and where the JR pass is accepted. Right now we have reservations in Asakusa and I'm trying to work out the best way in and out to other area to other parts of Tokyo and Kyoto. It looks like its a 10min walk to the Asakusa station (Asakusa red line?) and a 5min walk to the Asakusa Station (Tsukuba Express?) is one better than the other for getting around Tokyo? Do I have to use a Suica card. I'm sorry in advance for my ignorance and appreciate any help. Thank you!!
Extremly Excited but also Extremely Overwhelmed
Hi there,
Asakusa is one of the few areas that does not have many JR Lines, the best way in and out is usually the metro with the Asakusa and Ginza lines. There is a JR Station called Asakusa Bashi, but this is a bit north of downtown Asakusa. Suica will be very helpful here.
Generally speaking, I recommend using the Metro to Ueno station from where you can use the JR Pass to explore Japan and even get on the Shinkansen.
Kind regards,
Daniel
Thank you Daniel-San!!! I've read a lot of different info on Suica. Can it only be purchased within Japan? Or can I purchase it prior to arrival? Thank You!!!
We have a detailed page on Suica here.
You can easily download it to your iPhone or Android wallet, or buy a pass at any JR office (including at the airport).
Tremendous Help!!! Thank you again Daniel-San!!!
