we are a group travelling together some of us has JR pass and others has Kansai Hiroshima area pass from JR west. we will be staying at a hotel near Kyoto rail station and want to visit Hiroshima and return (day trip).We would like to travel in the same train/s together. How can we do that preferably without significant additional cost. Thanking you in advance for your advice.

Hi there,
Just go to a ticket office together and tell the JR Staff that you want to travel together.
They should be able to arrange it.

Hi there,
Unfortunately you cannot make reservations online for JR-West trains, you'll have to go to a ticket office as Daniel-san said.
