we are travelling to tokyo via narita airport for 13 days, during that time we will be travelling on to hiroshima, kyoto, hakone then back to tokyo. we would like to travel at least some of the ay on the nozomi train and as the rail pass doesn't cover this we wondered if it would still be worth getting
is it worth getting jr pass
Hi there,
Here is a little list of ticket prices without the JR-Pass.
Narita Airport --> Tokyo ¥ 2,940
Tokyo --> Hiroshima ¥ 18,050
Hiroshima --> Kyoto ¥ 10,790
Kyoto --> Odawara (for Hakone) ¥ 11,750
Odawara --> (Tokyo) ¥ 3,640
Tokyo --> Narita Airport ¥ 2,940
For a total of ¥ 50,110 the 14 Day JR-Pass is ¥ 45,100 so you could save at least ¥ 5,010.
Nozomi trains:
I read that you would like to ride the Nozomi at least once, if I may ask, is there any specif reason for this? The Trains themselves are usually the same as the Hikari trains (that are covered by the JR-Pass) and part of the N700series the only difference is that the Hikari makes a couple more stops on the way.
If you do plan on taking the Nozomi the best part to route to do so is Hiroshima --> Kyoto, otherwise you would most likely have a transfer at Shin-Osaka.
Instead of taking the Nozomi once have you considered taking the Upgrade to Green Class? This is 16,000Yen for the 14-day JR Pass (slightly less that one way Tokyo --> Hiroshima) and you will be able to enjoy all your travel in extra class and comfort.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
