Helllo Everyone!

I will be traveling to Japan for the first time in a couple weeks with my lady friend and need help figuring out an itinerary and if I need to buy a PASMO or Suica passes. We are young professionals who like to have fun and are open to anything. I have a friend living in Sabae, Fukui so I plan to visit with him for the first day and 1/2 then we will return to Tokyo and check in to our hotel near Kiyosumi, Tokyo District. Any suggestions/help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

SAT 3/9 Arrive. Travel to Fukui
SUN 3/10 Fukui, return to Tokyo in the evening
MON 3/11 - 3/15 Suggestions Please? Open to day trips, returning to Tokyo in the evening.
SAT 3/16 - Depart

Hi there,

Both PASMO and Suica are so called IC Cards. They are rechargeable cards mainly used for convenience sake as they do not offer discounts by themselves. You can swipe them over the gate when you enter the station and again when you depart, then the ticket price will be deducted of the cards balance.

I checked ticket prices to Sabae and it is about ¥ 13,940 for one way from Tokyo. If you use a 7-Day JR Pass for Narita --> Sabae and the return to Tokyo you will already be over the cost price of 28,300 Yen and any other travel you may do with it becomes free! A great day trip would be to Nikko but you could even visit Kyoto if you wish!

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thanks Daniel!

I have another question for you. We land at Narita at 420p. In order for us to make it to Sabae that day we will have to clear customs/immigration, activate JR Passes and be on the N'Ex by 615p. Do you think this is possible

Hi there,

Yes I don't think that will be a problem at all! Customs and baggage collection take about 30-40 minutes during normal times. Once you land and leave to plane, make sure to walk fast to immigration, it is a bit of a walk but you can easily save 10 minutes by not having to wait for the rest of the passengers of your airplane to get there visa's stamped.

Have a good trip,
Daniel
