JR pass to Hokkaido

Hi,
I will travel to Japan from 22 Nov to 1 Dec. We will arrive Tokyo Haneda airport on 22 Nov 2013, 2300 hrs and return on 1 Dec 2013, 2345 hrs.
Our plan is mainly to go to Hokaiddo. .
My question are as below:
1. Can we use the JR pass to travel from Tokyo to Hokkaido?
2. Do i need to buy the JR Hokkaido railway pass separately or I can use the JR pass during my stay in Hokkaido?
3. How can i check the bullet train schedule from Tokyo to Hokkaido and how to make reservation online?

Hi Jessneo,

You can certainly use the JR Pass to and around Hokkaido!

1.)Yes, the complete route and JR Hokkaido network are covered.
2.)The JR Pass is valid on every JR line in Hokkaido, so you don't have to buy any additional tickets.
3.)You can use this website from JR East to reserve Shinkansen travel to Hokkaido. You can reserve tickets for local train travel in Hokkaido only once you are in Japan and have activated your JR Pass.

For train schedules and route information I would recommend using Hyperdia. Hyperdia does display a lot of information and this can be somewhat overwhelming in the beginning. To help you sort all the information I would recommend reading our blog post on how to play using Hyperdia.
