Hi there,

You can make the majority of your trip between Kyoto and Hakone via Shinkansen, but you will need to make one change. From Kyoto, a Hikari or Kodama service will take you to Odawara, where you’ll then need to get a separate train to Hakone.

Please note that this train won’t be included in the JR Pass as it is operated by a private railway.

If your child will remain 5 years old for the duration of your trip he can travel for free, but you won’t be able to book him a seat and he’ll have to sit on your lap.

Hope this helps!

Alexis
