can we get a train from Kyoto to Narita on Saturday 14 December? Do we have to catch more than one train to get to Narita e.g. do we have to connect with a second train? How long will the journey take?

Hi there!
By Narita I assume you mean Narita Airport (opposite to the city?)
The route takes 242 Minutes and involves one transfer at Tokyo city.
Basically you take the Bullet train from Kyoto to Tokyo station, there you transfer to the Narita Express bound for Narita Airport. The route is completely covered by the JR Pass.
