Hello! We are travelling from Nikko to Koyasan. I would like to ask which is the best route to follow and whether it's covered by the JR Pass. Thank you in advance!

Hi there,

Using the JR Pass, the best route is to go from Nikko (JR) Station to Hashimoto station. The route would look as follows: Nikko - Utsunomiya. Then take the Shinkansen to Shin-Osaka station (with a transfer at Tokyo station). From Shin-Osaka use a local train to Hashimoto. This is all covered by the JR Pass.

From there you can use the Nankai railway (not covered by the JR Pass) for the last bit to Koya-san.

Hope this helps!
Daniel
