Hello Sheila Klinger,
Once you are in Kobe, take a taxi to the station Shin-Kobe, this is the station where the bullet trains depart toward Tokyo. Trains depart up to every 10 minutes and are thus very frequent. [You can use Hyperdia to look up the exact schedule and travel times.
Once you reach Tokyo station, you can either walk to Ginza (it's about 10min) or take a taxi.
The price for a one way ticket Shin-Kobe - Tokyo is ¥ 14,870 and can be purchased at any JR station or travel center in Japan.
Hope this helps!

thank you so much for your speedy reply. I guess I can change the yen to dollars. My question is is this for an unassigned seat or reserved. Do you think it's nessessary for an assigned seat? I did try the site you mentioned and had no lucjk for the downloading of the schedule. How long is the train ride. I've read by the JR it's length of time is differect from the other so I am confused. Thank you for your help.
Do you if once we are in Kobe can we get a train to kyoto? If so, what do I have to do for transport. When we get to kyoto is it easy to get someone to give us a tour? The same question for Osaka? I am hoping you can help me.

Hi sheila klinger,
Trains from Kobe - Osaka and Kyoto depart every 10 minutes so you can just go to the station and hop on the next train. There's a very good English tourist information at both Osaka and Kyoto station and they can be a good start to explore both cities.
The train ride Tokyo - Kobe takes about 200 minutes and trains depart every 30min.
Hope this helps :)

Again, thank you foryour speedy response. We will be on back 2 back cruises, that's why I have so many questions. As I mentioned earlier, on our 1st cruise we will take the bullet train from Kobe to Tokyo and spend a few days there. We then catch our 2nd part of the cruise and board in Yokahama for the cbalance of our trip. That's why my question was since the ship stops in Kobe again we hope to go to kyoto and Osaka from there. As you said we go to the same staion
(Shin - Kobe) and get the train there for either Kyoto or Osaka. Do you know if it is easy to hire a tour guide in either of
these places. We would welcome any suggestions that you have regarding taking a tour of these cities.
From your response it seems that the train ride is longer going from Tokyo to Kobe than it is going from Kobe to Tokyo.
Did I understand that correctly? Or is it also about 200 minutes on the bullet train going from Kobe to Tokyo?
Do you have any idea of the cost of the train from Kobe to Kyoto and from Kobe to Osaka?
Also, please let me know if you think we should have reserved seats on the train from Kobe into Tokyo.
Thank you for all of your help.

Hi Sheila Klinget,
The trip Tokyo - Kobe or Kobe - Tokyo takes around 200 minutes, both take about the same amount of time. From Tokyo you take the Shinkansen to Shin-Kobe from Shin-Kobe you can use local trains to travel into the city of Kobe or to Kobe station. Sorry if part of this was unclear. You could consider making seat reservations for the Shinkansen, however on most days there are more than enough seats available. I would recommend going so if you travel in the weekend.
The ticket price for a one way ticket Kobe - Kyoto is ¥ 1,080 and Kobe - Osaka is ¥ 410.
Hope this clears things up!
Daniel
