My daughter & I are travelling to Japan in September. Our itinerary is as follows:
Tokyo - 3 nights
Kanazawa - 2 nights
Hiroshima - 2 nights
Kyoto - 2 nights
Hakone - 2 nights
Tokyo - 2 nights

1 We will be purchasing a 14 day JR Pass but am wondering if we also need to load some credit on a Suica card for subway trips & non JR lines.
2 We will be hiring a pocket wi-fi but are also considering a pocket translator ... what are your opinions on these items

Hi there,

1.) Getting a Suica card is always a good idea, it will help you pay quickly for any fare not covered by the JR Pass and even if the JR Pass covers all your travels, then you can use Suica to pay for your groceries or drinks or convenience stores, vending machines etc.

2.) Pocket WiFi in Japan is amazing, it is super fast and comes with unlimited data. I would not be surprised if it is better than your broadband connection at home. The Pocket Translator is a cool item but still in early stages of development and does not always work as good as it should. For your translations needs, I think getting a pocket wifi + using Google translate works way better.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
