Hello JR Passe team, I would like to get your help/information if possible.

I'm going to travel alone to Japan between 15\11 and 29\11, I'll land in Tokyo and stay for approximately 3\4 days, then I'll go to Kyoto for 3\4 days, I'll go to Hiroshima (just spend 1 day there and come back) and then I'll go to Osaka for the rest of the time until I return to Portugal.

I have some questions:

  • I would like to know if it is worth paying for the pass for 14 days.

  • To travel 'within' these cities, what is the best option for traveling (I'm planning to visit more distant monuments and I don't want to waste a lot of time walking)

  • Is there an App or website that helps guide you within cities? For example, being in a location and easily understanding where to take transport, its routes, timetables, etc.

I think that for now I have no more doubts, thank you in advance if you help me ;) I wish you a good job.

Best regards,
Mariana

Hi Mariana,

I'm not sure if a JR Pass makes sense here. This is because you fly out of Kansai, and therefor have to use the train less. Instead, I recommend using a Kansai Hiroshima Area Pass for travel around the Kansai Area (Osaka, Kyoto, etc) and your trip to Hiroshima.

For local travel, look at using a Suica card for convenient local travel. You can also use this with your phone wallet.

For Apps, most people use a combination of Google Maps and Navitime.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
