Hi Ryan Shaw,

The best day visit to Fuji is probably a visit to Kawaguchiko and the Fuji Five lakes. Both buses are trains will get you there in reachable time and the area is a very beautiful one.

An alternative could be a visit to Hakone, this is only 36 minutes away by Shinkansen from Tokyo but this a little further away from Fuji.

Hope this helps!
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Thank you so much for the information! Could I ask your recommendation on getting to the Fuji Five Lakes from Tokyo using the JR Pass

Of course!

There are two options to consider.

One is by rail, this is the most economic when you have a JR Pass. It's also the most scenic. Use the JR to travel to Otsuki station from Tokyo at Otsuki station transfer to the Fujikyu line to Kawaguchiko. The last part on the Fujikyu requires a separate fare of 1,150yen.

An other option is to take the bus from Tokyo or Shinjuku station. This cost 1,700yen (not covered by the JRPass) and will get you directly from to Kawaguchiko. Generally an express bus is a about 30minutes faster than rail.
