Hi,

Will be arriving in Tokyo and staying for 8 days total. We plan to explore Tokyo and local areas and then do a day trip to Hakkone and also two days in Kyoto (via Bullet train). Is the 7 day JR pass the best option for us? Will it cover the bullet train?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Samreen,

It would depend on the amount of travel that you do. The 7-day JR Pass is about the same price as a return by bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto and any additional travel you may do after that basically becomes free.

You can also use the JR Pass to travel to Odawara, the access station for Hakone by Shinkansen. So I would certainly recommend a 7 day JR Pass for your itinerary.

In Tokyo you can ride all the local JR lines, here is a great map, so you can get an idea of what is covered.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
