Hi,

We are a family of three going to Japan for 21 days in july.
What passes should we purchase?

This is our plan:
From Narita Airport to Tokyo
From Tokyo to Osaka
From Osaka to Kyoto
From Kyoto to Tokyo
From Tokyo to Narita Airport

We stay in each city for a week and want to be able to take the trains/subways to get around.

What passes should we buy?
Both JR Passes and Regional Passes or ...?

Thank you!

Hi Annica,

I think your best option for value is to look at regional options, for example in the Kansai Area (Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Kobe etc) the Kansai Area Pass or Kansai Area WIDE Pass are great to hop between cities. In case you feel a bit adventurous and would like to add a side trip (even a day trip) to Hiroshima, then the Hiroshima Area Pass is great,

For travel between Tokyo and Kyoto/Osaka, getting a normal ticket is the most cost effective way.

Kind regards,
Daniel
