Hi there,
Make sure you include the return Tokyo - Hakone - Kyoto in your 7-day JR Pass. Then try to cover any additional travel for the best possible savings with your pass.

Thank you ! that is what i was planning to do. Also please advise if i need to reserve seats in advance. can the seats be reserved only after i activate the card?

I would recommend making reservations but it is generally not required. You can also just hop on the train :)
Most reservations can indeed only be made after activating your JR Pass.
