Hi can anyone help, I'm travelling around Japan for 33 days and I'm not sure which is the best option for a JR pass.
I'm thinking of doing a national 21 days and taking a break over the 5 days (when we're skiing in Niseko) and then getting a 6 day flexi pass for JR EAST-SOUTH HOKKAIDO PASS or another 7 day national ticket from 26th Jan onwards.

My itinerary is Jan 1st - Feb 2nd

Tokyo - 1st - 5th
Osaka - 5th - 11th
Kyoto - 11th - 13th
Tokyo - 13th - 16th
Yudanaka Shibu Onsen area - 16th - 18th
Tokyo - 18th - 21st
Niseko - 21st - 26th
Tokyo - 26th - 2nd

Thanks!

Hi there,

I recommend using the JR Fare calculator to get an idea of your total travel costs and see what JR Pass would fit you best here. Sometimes it can actually be cheaper to buy local tickets if you stay local somewhere, instead of traveling.

That said, with a little bit of planning, I think a 21 day JR Pass could be the best option when used from the 6th - 26th. This would cover all your long distance travel if you could go to Osaka on the 6th instead of the 5th. It would be the most economic what of covering your travel by far and you would need just one 21 day JR Pass.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
