Konnichiwa,
I'm planning a trip from New Zealand to Japan, and I'd really appreciate if you could confirm I've got enough days in each place to see most things and to check which JR Pass I should purchase. We fly in and out of Narita airport with our preferred airline. Can you check our itinerary and see if I've got about the right number of nights? It's never enough to properly see a city I know. Also, once you activate the JR Pass do you then have 7 or 14 days to use it, or is for 7 or 14 days of train travel?
Thank you for your help, this is a great service. Arigato gozaimasu
Arrive Tokyo 28 Oct at Narita.
1) Not sure whether to activate the JR Pass to get the train into Tokyo or not?
Stay in Tokyo until 2 Nov, then depart for Fujikawacuchiko.
2) I understand the JR Pass only takes us so far and I'd have to purchase a separate ticket? Is this correct?
2 Nov & 3 Nov - Stay in Fujikawacuchiko for 2 nights
3) Is this too long? Would 1 night be enough, especially if the weather is so we can't see the mountain?
4 Nov morning - Depart Fujikawacuchiko by bus to Mishima - takes 1.5 hours
4 Nov - Take Shinkansen from Mishima to Nagoya - depending on train time do some sightseeing in Nagoya
4 Nov - Take Shinkansen from Nagoya to Kyoto - stay in Kyoto for 4 nights
4) Is this long enough to take in most sights of Kyoto? Including Saga Romantic Train? Seems like lots to do and see in Kyoto
8 Nov - Take Shinkansen from Kyoto to Osaka - stay in Osaka for 4 nights.
5) Again, is this long enough to stay in Osaka to do sights in Osaka, Universal Studios and a day trip seeing Himeji and Kobe in one day?
12 Nov - Take Shinkansen to Hiroshima - stay in Hiroshima for 2 nights.
6) I've read its recommended to spend one night on Miyajima Island, do you agree?
14 Nov - Take Shinkansen from Hiroshima to Narita airport - fly home
