Hello,

I will do the following itinerary in April 2026 and I am not sure what is the right passes I should purchase:

18th arrive in Tokyo (Haneda) - Train to Tokyo Ningyôchõ Station (night stay)
19th travel to Osaka
19th - 20th -travel inside Osaka
21st travel to Universal-City Station and back to Osaka Station
22th travel to Hiroshima - visit Hiroshima
23th travel to Miyajima and then travel to Kyoto
24th - 27th visit Kyoto (including day-trip to Nara)
27th at night travel to Hakone
28th visit Hakone area. Travel to Tokyo at night
29th-2nd of May travel inside Tokyo
2nd of May - Travel back to Haneda airport

I am trying to understand whether it is best to get a JR rail pass, regional passes, single tickets or a mix.

Best regards,
André

Hi André,

To make the most of your trip, you might want to look at these two JR Pass options:

  • A 7-day Nationwide JR Pass (valid from 22nd to 28th April): This would cover your travel from Osaka to Hiroshima and Kyoto, as well as your return journey to Hakone and Tokyo.

  • The Kansai-Hiroshima Area Pass: This is a more cost-effective option if you prefer to pay for your long-distance Shinkansen tickets to and from Tokyo separately.

I hope this helps!

Kind Regards,

Mariko
