Is the 14 pass the best option for the following itinerary and are their trains/buses it does not cover that we would need to take into account?

Hello,

My husband and I will be traveling Japan on a pretty tight itinerary and I am looking for the best options for travel inside the country that will also save time at the train stations. This is our itinerary:

July 19th - Fly into Ishigaki for Scuba Diving
July 21st - Fly to Okinawa visit aquarium
July 22nd - Fly from Okinawa to Fukuoka then take trains to Hiroshima
July 23rd - Day in Hiroshima and visit Miyajima
July 24th - Train to Kinosaki (as early as possible)
July 25th - Train to Kyoto
July 26th - Train to Gotemba
July 27th - Climb Fuji
July 28th - Train to Yokohama
July 29th - Train to Tokyo (use trains around tokyo)
July 30th - Travel to Yamadera then overnight train to Sapporo
July 31st-Aug 1st- Travel around Sapporo
Aug 2nd - Travel to Chitose to Airport

I used the fare calculator, but I know it does not count buses or the miyajima ferry so I wanted to see if those things would make it worthwhile. Also, is it possible to do all of these things only on JR lines or will we need to use others as well?
Thank you!

Hello there,

A JR Pass could be really good for travel from Fukuoka to Hokkaido, it will cover travel between all the cities you plan to visit. However, I did want to flag up that there is no overnight train from Yamadera to Sapporo, and the best option is to take the Shinkansen during the day.

Other than that, the JR Pass should cover all your travel but you may still require local transport. For example around Mt. Fuji.

Kind regards,
Daniel

Thank you! I was using google maps and it showed an overnight trip that did require transfers from Yamadera to Sapporo. Do you have a link for a better local/shinkansen schedule? We can definitely make some adjustments and leave Yamadera in the early afternoon if there is a train out.

Thanks for looking over the trip!
