Itinerary check and JR Pass advice

Hi

My girlfriend and I are visiting Japan in 3 weeks time and it would be really helpful to get some advice. I'll be running the Tokyo marathon on 25 February but then we're planning to stay on and travel a bit.

In total, we have 15 days and we have a rough itinerary:

3 nights - Tokyo
1 night - Hakone
1 night - Osaka
1 night - Naoshima
1 night - Osaka
Day trip - Nara
3 nights - Kyoto
1 night - Hiroshima
1 night - Miyajima Island
3 nights - Tokyo

Do you think this itinerary is too busy or comfortable enough to enjoy the places we visit? Is there a way that we could use a 7 day JR Pass for travel outside of Tokyo so that we don't have to buy a 14-day pass?

Thank you.

Hi there,

I checked your schedule and it looks very nice. Going to Naoshima is a really nice addition to the more frequently visited cities, such as Kyoto and Osaka. There's too much time in between the day that you travel from Tokyo and return there to match a 7 day JR Pass to your itinerary but a 14 day JR Pass will work very well. It is more money up front but the added flexibility will be a godsend when you are traveling around Japan.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
