Hello,

I am visiting Japan and unsure what rail passes I need for my trip. My itinerary is as below

Tokyo 5 nights - Hakone 1 night - Takayama 2 nigjus - Kanazawa 2 nighys - Kyoto 4 nights - Osaka 4 nights.

We also plan on doing day trips to Hiroshima and Nara.

Should we buy the 21 day JR pass to use for moving around Tokyo or is there a better value option ?

Is there any other passes I need to include ?

Hi there,

I would recommend purchasing your tickets individually up to Kyoto, as it'll come out cheaper. However a Kansai-Hiroshima Pass would be worth looking into for your day trips. It is a 5-day pass, so it should be activated in either Kyoto or Osaka depending on where you're planning on making the day trips out of. If Osaka, for example, you could activate the Pass on your last day in Kyoto, so it covers the journey to Osaka and then subsequently covers the day trips.

More info on the Pass can be found here.

Hope this helps!

Alexis
