Hi, we are a family of 5 traveling to Japan in the spring (2 adults, three children ages 12, 9, 7). I have researched on fare calculators if it makes sense to buy the 14 day JR pass but want to confirm through this forum.

Day 1-Arrive in Narita stay in Tokyo
Day 2- Sightsee in harajuku shibuya, and shinjuku
Day 3 sightsee in Asakusa, Ueno, and Gina
Day 4 Harry Potter museum- travel to Kyoto
Day 5 Sightsee in Kyoto (using train/bus for transportation)
Day 6 Sightsee in Kyoto travel to Osaka
Day 7 Sightsee in Osaka (using train/bus of transportation)
Day 8 Travel to Shizuoka, sightsee and spend the night
Day 9 Shizuoka to Ichinomyia (chiba)
Day 10 Ichinomiya
Day 11 Inchinomiya to Tokyo Disney
Day 12 Tokyo Disney
Day 13 Tokyo Disney
Day 14 Disney to Narita

Does it make sense to get a 14 day pass or buy tickets as we go? Thank you!

Hi there,

For your itinerary, you could use a 14-day JR Pass. However, if your long-distance travel is concentrated within a shorter period, a 7-day JR Pass is likely more cost-effective.

For example, if you travel to Kyoto on day 5, a 7-day pass would cover your journeys until day 11. You can use individual tickets for the rest of your journey. These can be purchased at ticket machines or ticket counters at JR Stations.

I hope this helps!

Kind Regards,

Mariko
