Japan Rail Pass coverage

Hi,

My boyfriend and I will be travelling to Japan in between March 2 and March 14. We would like to buy a Japan Rail Pass for 7 days as at both ends of our trip we will be in Tokyo. Here's our plan:

Tokyo - Kyoto - Osaka - Nara (day-trip)-Shizuoka (to avoid spending 4h on a train to Tokyo from Osaka) - Fuji (Kawaguchiko) - Tokyo.

My questions are:
1. Is the Japan Rail Pass a good deal for our planned itinerary?
2. Is there a way to get to Fuji, be it Kawaguchiko or other nearby location, using the Rail Pass?

Hello there,

1.) Yes, the JR Pass covers nearly all your travel, expect for Fuji Kawaguchiko.

2.) The JR Pass covers part of the route but Kawaguchiko. You can go up to Otsuki station using the JR Pass but will have to use a non-jr line from there. For details see: http://www.jrpass.com/blogs/itinerary-tip-mt-fuji

Hi Daniel-san,

Thank you so much for this. Just one more question: Is the Rail Pass covering the itinerary Shizuoka-Mishima-Gotemba? I couldn't quite understand from the Rail Pass coverage map.
We were thinking to catch a bus from Gotemba to Kawaguchiko. It seems the easiest.
