Please advise me on buying the cheapest option for traveling in Japan. I, my wife and my two daughters, 21 and 14 years old, will be traveling. There will be four of us in total. We will arrive in Tokyo (Narita Airport) on March 17, 2025 and will be sightseeing in Tokyo until March 21, 2025.
The next morning, March 22, 2025, we want to travel to Kyoto with a stopover in Hakone to see Fuji. We just want to get off the train for a few hours and explore Hakone and continue to Kyoto the same day.
From 23.03.2025 to 25.03.2025 we will be visiting Kyoto
26.03.2025 we will be traveling from Kyoto to Osaka
27.03.2025 we will be traveling from Osaka to Kobe and back to Osaka
28.03.2025 we will be traveling from Osaka to Nara and back to Osaka
29.03.2025 we will be flying home from Osaka airport.

Thank you for your answer

Hi there,

For your trip from the 22nd to the 28th of March, a 7-day Nationwide JR Pass could be a convenient option. It allows unlimited travel on most JR lines, eliminating the need to purchase individual tickets for each train journey.

However, as you will be spending a significant amount of time in the Kansai region (Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, etc.), a Kansai Area Pass might be more cost-effective for travel. For the Tokyo-Hakone-Kyoto route, you can use individual tickets.

I hope this helps!

Kind Regards,

Mariko
