Narita - Kawaguchiko - Kyoto - Tokyo

Hi, i have the itinerary as above. Arriving Narita on 30th November and plan to go to Kawaguchiko until 2nd December. From there i am going to Kyoto until 5th Dec and will stay in Tokyo until 10th December. For this itinerary i am planning to buy the 7 day pass JR Pass. I would like to ask few questions as below:

  1. When is the best value for me to start activating my JR Pass 7 day.

  2. Can you assist on the route/trains i should take for all of my trip above. Most convenient and fastest as i am travelling with a toddler.

Hi there,

1.) The most expensive route is for travel to Kyoto and back to Tokyo. The key for getting the best value out of the Japan Rail Pass is to cover this and then try to cover as much as possible.

2.) The best route will depend on what time you travel and where your accommodation is located. I recommend learning to use Hyperdia. This way you can find the best route at any time.
