Hello,

My partner and I are planning a trip this November. Our total trip will be 11 days. I am wondering if it would be worth pursuing a 7 day or 14 day pass. A majority of our travel will be done in the beginning of our trip. I included Itinerary below to seek your input.

Day 1 - Arrive Haneda Airport, travel to Kyoto via bullet train

Day 2 - Explore Kyoto

Day 3 - Travel to Nara for 1 night

Day 4 - Travel back to Tokyo (via bullet train)

Day 5 & 6 - Travel around the city of tokyo

Day 7 - Daytrip to mount fuji

Day 8 & 9 - More travel around city of tokyo

Day 10 - Last day of exploring tokyo

Day 11 - Head to Haneda airport to depart

Would you recommend a JR pass for the first 7 days of bulk travel? Or the 14 day pass to have all days covered?

Thank you for your time

Hi there,

With the JR Pass going up in price last year, just a return trip Tokyo - Kyoto is no longer enough for make savings with the pass. You'd have to add a side trip, say to Hiroshima or Sendai to make it pay off.

As it stands now, your best option would be the buy normal tickets as you go.

Kind regards,
Daniel
