Hi,

My husband and I will be traveling to Japan with our 2 kids (8 and 10) this early April for 2 weeks. For the 1st part of the trip, we would like to visit Tokyo, Kanazawa, and Nikko before heading to Hakone and Kyoto. We were planning to stay in Tokyo for a few days, travel to Kanazawa (hoping to catch the last of the cherry blossoms!) and stay overnight before heading to Nikko. Is it easy to get from Kanazawa to Nikko? Or would it be better for us to visit Kanazawa and Nikko as day trips from Tokyo? We want to spend some time hiking around Kegon Falls in Nikko. We plan to buy the 7 day JR Pass. Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi there,

I would say it is fairly easy in terms of transfers and routing from Kanazawa to Nikko but it still takes several hours the make the trip. So I would reserve one day to travel and settle in at Nikko (maybe to some local sightseeing) and enjoy longer hikes the following days.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
