Hi all

We are first time visitors to Japan, and plan to visit in April 2025 for the cherry blossom.

Our plan is to travel by train from Tokyo- Shinjuku to Matsumoto, and Matsumoto to kawaguchiko station, then back to Tokyo.

Q1 - Can I check if this is cover under any travel pass? I think the answer is no and we have to buy individual tickets for each leg - so like to confirm this

Q2 - For Tokyo- Shinjuku to Matsumoto, currently on JR East Japan Railway website, I can only purchase November 2024 tickets only. Can I confirm this means that I can only purchase ~1 month in advance

Q3 - Can I check if purchase the ticket will give me an online ticket and I need to be at the station earlier to get the paper ticket, before I can board? Can I be at the station a few days in advance to get the paper ticket? Or can I board with the online reservation ticket?

Thank you!

Hi there,

Yes, this itinerary would not be covered by any one pass so yes my recommendation would be to purchase tickets individually.

Kind regards,

Alexis
